I grew up in Coventry and studied for my Masters degree on a scholarship at The University of California in Los Angeles. It was here as a teenager that I really developed my sketching skills, often drawing the abundant places of interest surrounding me in California. Now I live in the pretty Warwickshire town of Kenilworth with my husband and children where I create my paintings in my studio.
We are lucky to live in such a beautiful and diverse area with lots of history, places of interest and beautiful walks to inspire me. I love watercolours as a medium because I like to pay attention to light and shadows and like the way that watercolours are a little unpredictable in their results but still beautiful nonetheless. Acrylic and oil paints on canvas give such a different feel to a painting, they are more vibrant and have a different energy to watercolours on paper. I enjoy working with all three mediums.
I have a real love of wildlife and nature and a true passion for painting. The majority of my work involves capturing the things that bring me pleasure on canvas or paper. I work with watercolours and oils to produce vibrant and characterful wildlife and airy, bright ‘feel good’ landscapes and skyscapes which elevate the spirit. Very often my landscapes are more about capturing a feeling or interpretation given by a particular view or walk. I paint with the hope of evoking feelings of joy to anyone viewing my pieces.
I have worked on a collection of Kenilworth landmark paintings, capturing my town’s history and beauty but I also enjoy painting the birds which visit our garden and other animals I am inspired by. Our black labrador Jobson keeps my feet warm whilst I paint but rarely stays still when I try to paint him. I’m hoping to capture him on paper one day.
I’m looking forward to exhibiting at the 2021 Leamington Art In The Park festival and I’m currently working on pieces for my ‘Simple Pleasures’ 2021 solo exhibiton. I’m also an active member of Kenilworth Artists.
